While Trade Unions Blame CPC Storage For Crisis Govt. Assures  Fuel  From Tomorrow

The Government assures the public that fuel will be made available by tomorrow (9) afternoon.
Secretary to the Ministry of Petroleum Resources Development Upali Marasinghe said that as the ship carrying 40,000 metric tons of petrol was originally slated to arrive in the country from Dubai at around 11.30 p.m today (8).But the  Ministry had taken steps for it to arrive four hours earlier at 7p.m., having taken into consideration the prevalent petrol shortage and the hardship faced by the public.
In another move to avoid delay “we sent an international inspector to the Dubai Port to test the quality of the fuel. He assured us that there was no question regarding the quality of the fuel. Usually we do not resort to such action. We only carry out fuel tests once the ship arrives at the Colombo Port. However, we changed course this time considering the crisis that has erupted. Further  on arrival fuel tests will be carried out to determine the quality of the fuel samples as per the normal procedure at the Kolonnawa laboratory”  Secretary Marasinghe explained.
