Rajitha Demands Restoration of Tax Cut on Beer

Speaking during the Budget debate, Health Minister Rajitha Senaratne yesterday urged the Finance Minister to withdraw the proposal to reduce the tax on beer, which would motivate students to drink beer, which ultimately lead them towards the use of stronger alcoholic drinks. The minister further said, steps should be taken to reduce the consumption of alcohol and added that he, as the health minister, would not support any proposal detrimental to the health of the people.

Hence, he urged the Finance Minister to withdraw the proposal before put to the vote in parliament.
