AG’s Dept. Committee Recommends Filing a Motion Against LG Interim Injunction

The Attorney General has appointed a committee comprised of three senior lawyers from the department to look into legal aspects of conducting local government elections as soon as possible.
This committee has recommended filing a motion in court today against the interim injunction order issued by the Court of Appeal with regard to the gazette, which includes the demarcations of 203 Local Government bodies.
The motion is based on holding the Local Government Election promptly. Accordingly, the intention of filing the motion is to hold the Local Government Election on an all-island basis instead of conducting of the election in stages.
