SLFP Rejects JO’s Request to Vote Against Budget

In Joint Opposition meeting chaired by ex president Mahinda Rajapaksa, several proposals were adopted. One of the proposals was that the SLFP should vote against the budget to prove its sincerity to enter into a electoral pact in respect of local government election.
The SLFP has out rightly rejected the request of the Joint Opposition and assured Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera of its fullest support for the budget.
In the meantime , Kumar Welgama told Journalist that if the SLFP did not leave the Government, the JO would contest the lG polls under the Flower bud symbol for which candidates have already been chosen.
There will be no alliance with the SLFP as long as it remains in the Government , he insisted. JO’s representatives at talks with the SLFP Pavitra Wanniarachchi, C.B. Ratnayake and Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena are due to convey this decision to the SLFP shortly.
