Seminar on International Day to End Impunity for Crimes Against Journalists in Colombo Today

The seminar for the International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists organised by UNESCO is scheduled to take place in Colombo today (4).
The objective of the seminar will be to promote freedom of expression and the rule of law through fostering safety of journalists and ending impunity in Asia . The event will focus on the role of the judiciary, National Human Rights Commissions as well as on the role of civil society and media in the persisting challenge of combating impunity for crimes against journalists in the region and seek to advance dialogues and strategies to strengthen the regional cooperation on safety of journalists and ending impunity in Asia.
The event, co-hosted by the Ministry of Finance and Mass Media, will see the participation of various regional stakeholders including ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission of Human Rights and Human Rights Commissions’ representatives.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will deliver the key note speech, while Minister of Finance and Mass Media Mangala Samaraweera and Director of Mass Media and Promotion of UNESCO Guy Berger are due to address the seminar as well.
