Resurrected FR Petition to Defer Ambagamuwa Polls

Only recently the government was able to persuade petitioners, who had filed FR petition in the Supreme Court against gazette notification published on LG delimitation to withdraw it and paved way for the Election Commission to conduct election in February 2018.
On Monday (3), a former member of the the Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha has filed a petition in the supreme court seeking an order to prevent elections being held to the Ambagamuwa Pradeshiya Sabha (PS).
Former member T.D. Nandarasa stated in his petition, that the new demarcation had affected the ethnic composition and in this process the rights of Sinhala Buddhists had been violated. Further it states, that Ambagamuwa PS had been divided into three Pradeshiya Sabhas of Norwood, Ambagamuwa and Maskeliya and that this would lead to
ethnic clashes.
