Rishad’s Continuous Efforts Resulted in Obtaining Lands for Resettled Families
People from Thalaimannar Pier in Mannar was displaced in the year 1990. As a result of continuous efforts taken by the Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen as from the year 2010, Land Reform Commission has taken steps to issue lands to over 600 families resettled at Thalaimannar Pier.
Minister Rishad spear headed the struggle to obtain lands for resettled families by taking up the matters with the Land Reform Commission (LRC) and raising the issue during Presidential Mobile service . Further he encouraged resettled families to get their names registered in the voter register.
In the past land reform work of Vavuniya and Mannar were handled by the Land Reform Commission in Anuradhapura. From November 2017, all relevant files regarding land reforms in respect of Vavuniya and Mannar were handed over to the Jaffna Land Reform Commission. Since then steps have been taken to issue lands to resettled families.
Resettled families were advised not to be taken for a ride by individuals, who promise land to them. Instead they are requested to contact Heads of Mosques in Thalaimannar Pier and make their applications through relevant Grama Sevakas .
