UN Representatives Arrives in Srilanka for An Overall Assessment on Arrests

A 3-member delegation from the UN Working Group on Arbitrary Detention has arrived in the country for an overall assessment of the country’s situation regarding the alleged deprivation of liberty.
They are scheduled to visit the places where suspects are detained, including prisons, police stations and institutions for juveniles, migrants and people with psycho-social disabilities, to gather first-hand information.
Accordingly, the delegation will visit Western, North-Central, Northern, Eastern, Southern and Central provinces, where they will meet government officials, civil society groups, and other relevant stakeholders.
The Working Group will present its final report on their inspection visit to the UN Human Rights Council in September 2018.
