Nearly 2,600 railway employees holding membership in 12 trade unions are on strike from 7 th placing several demands. Railway Trade Unions stated that the ongoing railway strike will continue as talks with the President’s Secretary on Sunday (10) evening failed. Railway services were declared as an essential service by the President, Maithripala Sirisena on Friday (8).
Under these circumstances, Ministry of Transport has issues last warning to striking railway employees, that if they fail to report for duty before 1200 hrs today (11), they will be treated as vacated their posts. The discussions were held yesterday at the Presidential Secretariat .
