Establishment Of A Special Unit At EC To Receive Election Complaints

The Deputy Elections Commissioner said a special unit to receive complaints regarding violation of election laws has been established at the Elections Commission. Complaints can now be lodged with the Elections Commission if election laws are being violated with regard to the Local Government Election, said  Additional Election Commissioner, MM Mohamed.

This special unit is comprised of police officers, representatives from local election monitoring bodies and representatives contesting at the election.

Meanwhile, the Police Headquarters says the use of posters and flags for promotion campaigns has been limited to two forms at the Local Government Election.

Police Media Spokesman Superintendent Ruwan Gunasekara said stern action will be taken against those who violate election laws.
