Responding to a statement made by Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) leader Udaya Gammanpila on journalists Prageeth Eknaligoda and Lasantha Wickrematunge, Sanjaya Eknaligoda, son of Prageeth Eknaligoda, stressed that United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) government did not have an honest intention to find out what happened to his father.

Addressing a media briefing yesterday (21), Gammanpila made a promise that if UPFA could gain majority of the parliament they will probe the murder of former editor of Sunday Leader Lasantha Wickrematunge and the disappearance of Prageeth Eknaligoda.

Posting a status on his facebook page on Wednesday (22), Sanjaya Eknaligoda stated that Gammanpila was trying to use his father’s name to gain nothing but political benefits.

“My father disappeared on January 24, 2010. Then UPFA government had five years to probe the matter. But they did not do it at that time and now they have suddenly remembered my father because of the general election,” Sanjaya Eknaligoda stated.

He added that he was not foolish to believe that people like Gammanpila will investigate a matter they did not bother to probe during five years of their rule.
