Delimitation Report to be Finalized & Submitted Towards January End.

Chairman of the Elections Commission, Mahinda Deshapriya pointed out that the delay in the Delimitation Report was one of the reasons for the delay in polls.

”If the polls were carried out according to the former system, then we could have held the elections earlier. There was also a court case against the Chairman of the Elections Commission in 2015 implying that he was delaying the polls. The Supreme Court ruled that the elections were delayed due to the delimitation not being completed and the number of members in the Local Government bodies had not been published in gazette. I request all those who blamed the Election Commission for the delay to read the judgment given by the Supreme Court last week”, he concluded.

Under these circumstances, delimitation committee chairman has told the press that the final report will be submitted to the subject Minister towards the end of January and its function will come to an end by 4 th February 2018.
