Since Trade Union’s Demands Met by CEB , Proposed Strike Called Off.

The CEB Board, at its meeting on 18 December, decided to attend all the shortcomings in relation to bonuses and pay them along with the money, which had been deducted from the salaries placing them on no pay leave during strikes.
The Board had effectively reverted the decision to reinstate the no pay leave on the employees, which would otherwise have resulted in the slashing of the 10% of the bonus of one and a half month’s salary and the medical leave of 21 days which also went with it.
The Board of Directors had sent the minutes of the meeting yesterday to General Manager, S. Samarasinghe and he had in turn notified the decision to the Unions. Hence, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Unions yesterday (19) called off their proposed strike action. Secretary of the CEB Employees Union Malaka Wickremasinghe confirmed it last (19) night.
However, Malaka said the Unions would take trade union action against corruption at the CEB on a future date and the Unions would initiate strike action, if measures were not taken against corrupt employees.
