Wilpattu’s Vilaththikulam Forest Destruction Report to be Presented to Parliament

The report on the Special Investigation done by the Auditor General regarding destruction of the Vilaththikulam  Forest Reserve, which borders the Wilpattu National Park, will be presented to Parliament today. Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe said, that the investigation was initiated and carried out due to the massacre of wildlife in the Wilpattu National Park.
He further said,s and that Lengthy studies done on the responsible institutions revealed that the forest clearance
was done on legal grounds. He  also stated that the investigation was done on the Forest Conservation Department, the Central Environmental Authority, the Divisional Secretariat and the infrastructure facilities provided for the construction in the region.
Auditor General Gamini Wijesinghe said, accordingly, the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) which, had supplied electricity and Ceylon Water Board, which provided water for the construction, were also investigated too.
