A Ministerial Committee Chaired by Dr.Sarath Amunugama was earlier appointed to negotiate with the railway unions and bring the strike to an end. They were successful in their efforts and strike called off by railway unions.
Meanwhile, the cabinet has appointed another committee headed by the Secretary to the Ministry of Public administration and Management to go deep into the railway employee’s salary and other issues pointed out by the unions and make their recommendations. Other members of the committee comprised of 3 Secretaries from other Ministries, a representative from the Public Service Commission, a representative from the National Salary Commission and an expert in personnel management from private sector.
