Immigration & Emigration Officers Threatens Stern Trade Union Action

The Sri Lanka Immigration and Emigration Officers’ Association (SLIEOA) President Aruna Kanugala addressing the media at the National Library and Documentation Services Board yesterday warned the government that it would resort to stern trade union action unless their demand for a proper service minute was met.
The government had sought two more weeks to meet their demands and it had to stick to the Dec. 30 deadline. Further , Kanugala said that if the government failed to meet the demands it would first launch a protest and awareness campaign before resorting to stern trade union action.
However, the SLIEOA President said that due to the nature of their duties, some of it’s members working in airport and ports could not go on strike at their respective work places despite the fact that there is no legal barrier.
