Northern Province SLTB Employee’s Strike Continues…

A new bus depot was established with more convenience to passengers in Vavuniya. On a directive given by the by the Northern Province Chief Minister C.V. Vigneswaran, old bus depot was closed down to pave way for the smooth operation at the new bus depot, which was opened as from 1st January 2018.
Barricades were erected in such a way that no vehicle can enter the old bus depot and police deployed.
Employees of the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) in the North launched a strike yesterday (1) in protest over the closing down of the old bus depot. The strike was also supported by traders who put up shutters and hoisted black flags in a sign of protest, they said.
However, private bus operators are operating using the new bus depot at Vavuniya.
The strike inconvenienced a large number of commuters who depend on public transport.
Meanwhile, private bus operators came forward to provide free of charge transport to students to go to school reopened today.
Security is strengthened around old and new bus depots.
