Srilanka’s Consumer Affairs Act Archaic
Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen by issuing a message at the Regulatory Impact Analogists (RIA) workshop co- organized by the Consumer Affairs Authority and the Colombo United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) stated, that prevailing Srilanka’s Consumer Protection Laws were unsatisfactory and outdated. National Policy for consumer well being and protection is now ready for reform through the UN Guide lines for Consumer Protection (UNGCP).
Srilanka’s consumer protection frame work is largely dependent on legislation such as the Consumer Affair Authority Act, which needs revision.
