Increase in Lunch Sheet Pushes Lunch Packet Price Between Rs20 & Rs30 in Colombo

Canteen Owners’ Association Chairman Asela Sampath said,  around six million lunch sheets were being used per day within the Colombo to packet the meals. Lunch sheet produced according to specification laid down cost additional Rs 9.50, which has to be absorbed by the canteen owners in providing lunch packets.
As price of a lunch sheet has gone up to Rs 30 in the market, the price of a  lunch packet shot up between Rs 20 and Rs30. While some restaurant owners have increased the price by Rs 20, others have increased the price by Rs30.
This has an impact on the prices of all the meals other than the short eats, which had been increased in order to absorb the price increase of the newly produced polythene bags.
Central Environment Authority Director of Waste Management Ajith Weerasundara commenting on the price increase said special raids had been initiated within the city limits from last Wednesday to nab the sellers using non-biodegradable polythene and lunch sheets.
