The Chairman of the Election Commission Mahinda Deshapriya said, that the state incurs a cost of Rs 750.00 in respect of each postal vote. If those who were sent postal votes fail to vote, it was decided to recover the cost from them.
As quite a number postal votes had been returned to District Returning Officer’s office, the Election Commission has taken this decision. In the first instance they will be given a chance to explain the circumstances under which they failed to vote. If the reason given is not acceptable, recovery will be made, said Mahinda Deshapriya.
Today is the last day to cast postal vote, said Mahina Dehspriya.
