EC Mahinda Deshapriya Meets Party Secretaries Today

A discussion is scheduled to be held between officials of the Elections Commission and Secretaries of political parties. The discussion will be to request the consent of the party secretaries to allow journalists to record the casting of votes by VVIPs including the President, Prime Minister, Speaker of House, Opposition Leader, former Presidents and Prime Ministers.

The Chairman of Elections Mahinda Deshapriya rejected statements made by certain political groups regarding postal voting percentages. As the ballot papers have been stored in sealed ballot boxes and the counting of postal votes has not commenced so far, he dismissed the claim as a canard.

The Chairman of Elections   Mahinda Deshapriya also said the counting of postal votes would only commence after 4pm on the 10th.
