Katchatheevu Festival Commences Today

Katchatheevu St. Antony’s Church festival scheduled to be held on February 23rd and 24th. Around 4,000 to 5,000 Indian devotees expected to attend this year’s festival. Around 3,000 Sri Lankans are also attending it.
This church was built in 1905, by two fishermen from Ramanathapuram as gratitude to St. Antony after they had safely reached the mainland following a cyclone.
Katchatheevu was handed over to Sri Lanka in 1974 through an agreement, which was executed by both the countries. Under this agreement Indian fishermen and pilgrims continued to enjoy visiting Katchatheevu.
