PAFFREL Expects to Conduct Provincial Council Election Soon

Conducting the Provincial Council Election in the near future is possible, Election monitoring body the People’s Action for a Free and Fair Election said.

The term of three Provincial Councils has expired as of now, the Sabaragamuwa, North Central and the Eastern Provincial Councils adding there is no need to delay  conduct of the election further.

The first election held under the new Electoral System was the Local Authorities Election and pointed out that issues have arisen when appointing members at several Local Authorities, especially pertaining to female representation.

The Executive Director of PAFFREL Rohana Hettiarachchi said, amendments to the new Electoral System should be made prior to the Provincial Council Election and believes that certain amendments might have to be made to the new Electoral System.
