UN Under Secretary General for Political Affairs  Jeffrey to Sri Lanka

UN Under Secretary General for Political Affairs Jeffrey Feltman is due to visit Sri Lanka this week as planned, despite the state of emergency declared island-wide in view of unrest in the Kandy Administrative district.

Jeffrey Feltman will meet with a wide range of Sri Lankan leaders during the visit, including the President, Prime Minister and other senior officials, political parties and civil society groups,  UN spokesman said.

The UN spokesman further said the visit, scheduled for March 9th-11th, was planned before the state of emergency was imposed, adding that the visit is part of ongoing UN engagement with Sri Lanka.
