EU Expressed Concern Over the Recent Unrest Reported in Kandy & Ampara.

The European Union has expressed concern over the recent unrest reported in Kandy and Ampara.

Issuing a statement the Delegation of the European Union to Sri Lanka and the Maldives said it is important that the Government and security forces take urgent action against hate crimes and ensure that the perpetrators of such actions are swiftly brought to justice.

The statement stressed all political leaders, religious and other community leaders should condemn violence and take every effort to promote understanding and harmony between communities.

 European Union trusts that any actions taken under the State of Emergency will be proportionate and respect constitutional rights and freedoms, the statement said.
