Travel Ban on Sarath Kumara Gunaratne Lifted

Six individuals including  Former Deputy Minister Sarath Kumara Gunaratne were charged over alleged financial discrepancies reported during the Negombo Lagoon Development project during his tenure with the United People’s Freedom Alliance led government during the 2015 Presidential Election.
When the case was taken up for hearing  today the Criminal Investigations Department informed Court that charges have been filed against the suspects before the Colombo High Court.
Therefore the Magistrate requested for the case at the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court to be completed.
Accordingly the Magistrate cautioned the suspects to appear before Court when notice is issued summoning them before the High Court.
Followed a request made to seek medical treatment, the overseas travel ban imposed on Sarath Kumara Gunaratne has been temporarily lifted.
The Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Ranasinghe Bandara ordered Gunaratne to travel overseas from tomorrow till the 25th of April.
