Money Played an Important Role In Determining The Leadership In LG Councils -PAFFREL

Election Monitoring Body the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi has charged several members fall under the influence of money and privileges in the process of establishing power in Local Authorities.

Executive Director further said several incidents were reported of an amount between 1 million and 10 million rupees being given to councillors in order to obtain votes in favour.

Rohana Hettiarachchi said a party not voted for by the public taking over a Local Authority is against the will of the people and it was a shortcoming in the new electoral system.
