CHOGM 2018 Commences in London Today

The 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting commences today in London.
The theme of the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is under the caption ‘Towards a Common Future’. Special attention will be drawn to achieve the objectives of the Commonwealth countries under prosperity, security, justice and stability.
Leaders of 53 Commonwealth Nations are expected to participate in the summit.
The week-long summit is expected to attract around 5,000 participants from government, business, and civil society.
The formal opening of CHOGM takes place at Buckingham Palace on Thursday after which leaders will convene for their first executive session.
Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena left for United Kingdom to attend the 2018 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting yesterday along with a 10-member delegation. Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana will also attend the summit.
During his stay President Sirisena is expected to meet UK Prime Minister Theresa May and several other heads of Commonwealth states attending the summit.
The President has also been invited to deliver the keynote address at the inaugural session of the Conference on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
