Deadline Issued For the Establishment of LG Bodies Concludes Today

The deadline issued for the establishment of Local Government Bodies concludes today (20). The process in this regard commenced on the 20th of March.

Accordingly 340 Local Government Bodies were due to be established following the election of members to the relevant institutions.

However the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils noted with the exception of two Local Authorities, all other Local Government bodies have been established.

The Hambantota Municipal Council and the Poojapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha are yet to be formed.

The establishment of the Hambantota Municipal Council was postponed due to an inadequate Quorum of members at the Councils inaugural session, whilst the number of members for the Poojapitiya Pradeshiya Sabha was gazetted on the 29th of March thereby resulting in a delay in its establishment.
