Police Probe to Locate Missing Late Dr. Lester James Peries’ Award

Late legendary cinematographer Dr. Lester James Peries was awarded with the Ranamayura award at the New Delhi Film festival in 1965 for his film Gampereliya. This award was reported missing from yesterday, the day of his funeral . This had been robbed from his residence yesterday.

A complaint had been lodged at Bambalapitiya Police and investigations are underway by previewing video footage, Police Media Spokesperson SP Ruwan Gunasekera said.

According to the complaint, the award may have been lifted when the religious observances were taking place at his Thimbirigasyaya residence before the cortege left there.

Police have commenced an investigation to identify the robbers.
