Met Dept.Says Prevailing Wet Weather Will Continue…

The Met Department says that the prevailing rains and overcast conditions in the South-western part of the island are expected to continue over the next few days. It predicted heavy rainfall of above 75 millimeters in Sabaragamuwa, Western, Central, North-western provinces and in Galle, Matara districts.
Thunderstorms will periodically occur in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces.Thunderstorms are predicted elsewhere after 2 pm.
Met Dept. requests the general public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning.
Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation noted that water levels of Kelani and Mahaweli rivers and Ma Oya are currently receding.
The Disaster Management Centre stated that those who reside off the banks of Kelani River are advised to evacuate immediately after the river started to overflow last night.
In addition, Mahaweli River had reached spill levels around Peradeniya.
The irrigation department noted that Ma Oya was also overflowing around Giriulla.
The Director of Water Management at the DMC noted that the water levels of Kalu, Gin, and Attanagalu Oya are currently receding.
In addition, the Mahaweli Authority noted that 7 sluice gates of Polgolla reservoir remain open.
