Schools in the Southern Province Reopen Today

The government schools and pre-schools that were closed during the past few days owing to the prevailing influenza epidemic in the Southern Province on the instructions of Southern Province Minister of Education Chandima Rasaputra, will reopen from today (30).

The Provincial Minister had taken the decision of closing the primary sections and pre-schools of the province without consultations with the respective health authorities.

However, following discussions between the health and educational authorities yesterday (29), the Provincial Minister withdrew his earlier directive and instructed the provincial educational authorities to arrange for the reopening of all schools and pre-schools with effect from today.
