Lester James Peries ‘s  ‘Ranamayura Award’ to be Handed Over

Dr. Lester James Peries ‘s  ‘Ranamayura Award’ or the ‘Golden Peacock’ award that was stolen from the residence of the late Dr. James Peries on the day of his final rites will be handed over to his wife Sumithra Peries today (01).
The ‘Ranamayura Award’ or the ‘Golden Peacock’ award was conferred to Dr. Lester James Peries in 1965 at the India International Film Festival held in New Delhi for the film Gamperaliya.
The award was found on the baggage rack of a 177 Kaduwela – Colpetty private bus.
The award was handed over after the driver and conductor of the bus informed the Police of the discovery.
Dr. Lester James’ relatives had informed the Bambalapitiya Police that the award was found missing between 10am and 11am on the day of the late veteran’s final rites were due to be performed.
