Secret Ballot to Elect Deputy Speaker

A secret ballot is to be held in Parliament tomorrow (5) to elect a Deputy Speaker in place of Thilanga Sumathipala, who resigned from the portfolio after he defected from the Government followed by voting in favour of the no confidence motion against the Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasinghe.

While the President Maithripala Sirisena has proposed SLFP’s  National list MP Ankayan Ramanathan, UNP  proposed Moneragala MP Ananda Kumarasiri / Matara MP  Budhika Pathirana and the Joint Opposition has proposed  Dr.Sudharshanie Fernandopulle for the post of Deputy Speaker.
