Sri Lanka Tourist Arrivals Up 6.2-Pct in May, Crosses 1Bn Mark for 2018

Sri Lanka’s tourist arrivals were up 6.2 percent to 129.466 in May 2018 from a year earlier with arrivals in the first five months up 14.7 percent to 1,017,819.
Arrivals from India continued its growth momentum in May while Chinese arrivals saw a dip.
Indian visitors were up 23 percent to 34,167 while Chinese visitors dropped by 7.5 percent to 17,103.
In Europe,  British visitors grew 9.6 percent to 9,337 and German visitors were also up 8.7 percent t 6,906. But France was down 0.4 percent to 3,721.
Australian visitors were up 28.1 percent to 4,873.
Japanese arrivals also grew 48.5 percent to 4,229 while the United States arrivals were up 24 percent  to 4,123).
Asia-Pacific was the largest source of tourist traffic to Sri Lanka with 65 percent of the total received in May 2018. Europe accounted for 27 percent and the USA 6 percent.
