UNP Will Standby and Protect President

Speaking to media following an event in Kandy Minister Daya Gamage says the United National Party will continue to protect President Maithripala Sirisena in the same way UNP collectively worked hard  to appoint him as the Head of State.

He further noted the stance of a majority of the UNP is that a party leader must be nominated as the next Presidential candidate.

The Minister noted the UNP wanted a common party leader of the UNF, who has been with the UNP from the start, and a person who had not defected from the party and joined other alliances.
