Private long distance bus operators of the south went on strike stating that they were not permitted to pick up short distance passengers on their way. This has caused unforeseen hardship to office workers travelling to and from Matara to Colombo.

Having considered their plight, the transport authority has decided to cancel the licence issued to conductors and drivers operating in southern private buses, if they continue to strike.
