Willem Dafoe to lead Disney dogsled film “Togo”

Willem Dafoe is set to star in the live-action film “Togo” for Walt Disney Pictures which has Ericson Core (“Invincible,” “Point Break”) slated to direct.

The story follows two of the key figures in the famed 1925 Nome Serum Run in Alaska – sled dog Togo and sled driver Leonhard Seppala. Dog sleds played a major role in transporting diphtheria serum over nearly 700 miles to save the city of Nome from an epidemic.

The story, penned by Tom Flynn, will focus on the unlikely friendship between man and dog. Kim Zubick is producing the project which is being developed for Disney’s streaming service to launch late next year.
