Cricket to become 12 players a side

(FASTNEWS|COLOMBO) – A radical proposal from the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) would see cricket teams comprised of 12 players a side for the new 100-ball competition.

Each side would select a playing group of 12, with only 11 players allowed to bat and only 11 allowed to bowl or field.

Which 11 are chosen in the batting or fielding lineups would be up to the team’s Captain.

ECB Director of Cricket Andrew Strauss hopes the new, shortest form of the game will attract a “More casual audience”, with the 12-player model floated as a way of differentiating the new tournament from the existing Twenty20 (T20) Vitality Blast competition.
