VIP Assassination Plot: Wimal Weerawansa appears before CID

(FASTNEWS|COLOMBO) – The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa on Monday (28) appeared before the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to submit a statement over the alleged plot to assassinate President Maithripala Sirisena and former Defence Secretary Gotabaya Rajapaksa.

Recently the CID informed the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court that move would be taken to obtain statements from Weerawansa and his wife Shashee Weerawansa, and Parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa as per the revelations made by an Indian National who was in remand custody over the alleged assassination claims.

Accordingly, Namal Rajapaksa submitted his statement to the CID on 23 January, 2019.
