JMD Indika maintains one stroke lead after Round 2

(FASTNEWS|COLOMBO) – Veteran J.M.D. Indika returned another 1 over par 72 to maintain his one stroke lead at the halfway mark of the Sri Lanka Golf Union Lectra Grand-Prix July Edition, made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship of Apparel Technologies, a member of the Bobbin Group of Companies.

BA Sanjeewa returned an Even Par 71, the best card for the day to climb to second place one stroke behind Indika, having been joint 4th place after round 1. Local golfer Vinoth Kumar’s 72 moved to him to third from 7th place overnight.

The cut-off for the top 20 was implemented at 171, with ties, and juniors Dhuwarshan (NEGC) and Haroon Aslam (VGCR) got through ahead of some other experienced players.

Lectra GP leader Sisira Kumara slipped a few places with a 76, while Januka Dilshan too dropped six places. The reigning Amateur champion MU Chanaka Perera too slipped a couple of places. Nevertheless, the top five places are separated by just ‘five’ strokes and the remaining two rounds promise a very closely contested battle in the final round. The Lectra Grand-Prix 2019 series, played over four rounds monthly, is conducted by the Sri Lanka Golf Union Amateur Golfing body, qualifies for the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR) monitored by R&A the World Amateur Golf controlling body, in Scotland.
