President Agrees To Allow Parliamentary Opposition to Decide On Leader

President Maithripala Sirisena agreed to allow the opposition decides on the Parliamentary Opposition Leader, National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa said.

He told this to media after the UPFA party leaders’ meeting with the President.

A section of the SLFP elected MPs and several other parties of the UPFA have already announced that they will sit in opposition in the next parliament. However, the TNA demanded the opposition leader post following the agreement between the UNP and the SLFP to form a national government.

Meanwhile, some of the SLFP MPs including former President Mahinda Rajapaksa have suggested the name of Kumara Welgama to the post of Opposition Leader.
