Teachers return to work after strike

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – Teacher trade unions say academic activities in schools island-wide will return to normalcy today.

Academic activities in schools were hampered as a result of several teacher and principal unions engaging on a sick-note campaign based on six demands, on Thursday and Friday.

Speaking to a prominent online news portal Chairman of the Ceylon Teachers Services Union Mahinda Jayasinghe said discussions will be held with the Ministerial Sub-Committee appointed to look into trade union action based on salary anomalies this evening today.

Mahinda Jayasinghe said the trade union action launched on Thursday and Friday was a success adding however academic activities were hampered in schools.

He noted members of the union were not intending on disrupting academic activities in schools while adding that the government should be held responsible for the inconvenience caused to students and parents.

Jayasinghe said members of the union will return to schools today and also carry-out Advanced Level paper evaluation activities from today.
