Illegal elephant calf case fixed for Nov 6

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – The Colombo High Court today (Oct 4) ordered that the illegal elephant calf possession case against four suspects including an interdicted magistrate would be heard on November 6.

The order was issued when the case was taken up for hearing before High Court judge Gihan Kulatunga.

Judge Kulatunga also ordered to serve summons on the witnesses who are expected to give evidence for the prosecution, to appear before court during the next hearing.

The Attorney General  charged the suspects under 25 counts for being in the possession of an elephant calf named ‘Sakura’ in Meegoda between November 6, 2008 and May 18, 2015.

Suspended Additional Magistrate Thilina Gamage,two former employees of the Wildlife Department Priyanka Sanjeewani and Upali Padmasiri, and Chandrasena Bandara, an individual claiming to be the owner of the elephant are the accused in the case.
