Nimal Siripala De Silva Calls For Electoral Reform within a Year

 

Badulla District UPFA MP Nimal Siripala de Silva stated that the new parliament should introduce electoral reform within one year.

Speaking at the parliament following taking oaths as a new MP, de Silva said that the new system should ensure a Member of Parliament to all electorates.

The electoral reform was a promise made by President Maithripala Sirisena during his Presidential Election campaign. However, the attempts at passing introducing electoral reform through a 20th Amendment to the Constitution during the last days of the former parliament were unsuccessful.
