DEW Gunasekara Challenges National List Appointments

 

Sri Lanka Communist Party General Secretary DEW Gunasekara filed a Fundamental Rights petition with the Supreme Court against the recent national list appointments.

The petitioner seeks an order to quash all appointments of the MPs elected by the national list Gazetted by the Elections Commissioner.

The petitioner alleges that his name has not been duely gazetted in the Gazette Notification published by the Elections Commissioner. The petitioner informs court that his name was listed at the third position in the UPFA national list gazette earlier.

Fifteen respondents including the Elections Commissioner and General Secretaries of the main political parties have been named as respondents in the petition.
