Youth with 52 kg explosives held

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – Special Task Force (STF) officers arrested a suspect in possession of a cache of explosives weighing over to 52 kgs.

The STF had made the arrest recently in the Udayarkattu area in Puthukudiruppu, acting on a tip-off.The suspect identified as Waran Kuganeshwaran (21), was a resident of Kuravil, Udayarkattu South.

Investigations have revealed that the suspect had collected explosives from abandoned explosives devices to be sold to fishermen to be used in blast fishing.

The suspect was produced before the Mullaitivu Magistrate’s Court and samples of the explosives had been sent to the Government Analyst for testing. Puthukudiruppu Police is conducting further investigations.
