(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – A United Nations official on drugs and crime held talks with Defence Secretary Kamal Gunaratne yesterday.
A four-member delegation of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) led by the Director Operations, Ms. Miwa Kato met the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Major General (Rtd) Kamal Gunaratne at the Ministry yesterday.
The Defence Ministry said that the delegation had discussions with the Secretary on a number of matters including training and strengthening cooperation.
UNODC is a department of the UN Secretariat assisting Member States fighting transnational organized crime, corruption and terrorism, providing assistance to counter crimes such as illicit drug trafficking, human trafficking, smuggling of migrants, and violence against women and cybercrime, and creating capacity for criminal justice and crime prevention.
