Rains continue to lash Sri Lanka

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – The Department of Meteorology today (05) forecasted that the prevailing showery condition in several provinces is expected to continue.

Accordingly, showers or thundershowers will occur at times in Central, Eastern, North-Central, Northern, Uva Provinces, and in Hambantota District, and elsewhere after 1.00 PM. Showers may occur in North-Western Province during the morning too.

Meanwhile, heavy showers above 100 millimetres are likely at some places in Ampara, Anuradhapura, Badulla, Batticaloa, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Monaragala, Mullaitivu, Nuwara Eliya, Polonnaruwa, Trincomalee, and Vavuniya Districts.

Furthermore, fairly heavy showers about 75 – 100 millimetres are likely at some places in Sabaragamuwa, Southern and Western Provinces, and in Colombo, Galle, Gampaha, Hambantota, Kalutara, Kandy, Kegalle, Matale, Matara, and Ratnapura Districts.

Fairly strong gusty winds up to 50 kilometres per hour can be expected over the island particularly in Central, North-Central, Northern, North-Western and Uva Provinces, the forecast added.
