Colombo Oriental Choir stuns Sri Lanka with Christmas performance [VIDEO]

(FASTNEWS | COLOMBO) – The Colombo Oriental Choir today (23) released one of the earliest Christmas Carols in Sinhala in the public domain, which seen its cultural impact to a great extent in Sri Lanka, then known as Ceylon, since the Dutch occupation.

An acclaimed musician Reverend Father Jacome Gonsalves composed this Sinhala Carol, ‘Devidu Upanneya’ (Jesus was Born) in the mid-1700s, with influence of Carnatic, Folk, and Vannam music genres.

The Colombo Oriental Choir proved their exceptional singing ability as expected, and their cover of ‘Devidu Upanneya’ left the audience stunned and wanting more.

The Colombo Oriental Choir is Sri Lanka’s first and pioneer ensemble of singers which promotes authentic classical, semi-classical, and folk music genres.

In a short period of time, the Colombo Oriental Choir has evolved, and established a strong and growing musical presence throughout national and international audiences while making a profound and positive impact on society.
